Under Deck Ceiling.

If you have a raised wooden deck you can make the area dry below and increase your outdoor living area or create more usable storage. This area then could easily be enclosed or you could have a screened porch as it is now a dry space.

The designs available are typically attached to the bottom of the deck frame but also can be placed below the decking and there are even some decking products designed for this. They consist of some form of panel that is sloped which will collect the water and direct it into some type of gutter and downspout. The panels vary in material from a plastic or vinyl to aluminum or Gavalume®. Their shapes may be looped up, looped down, flat or even hidden. Depending on the ceiling panel style they are either permanent or removable plus ventilation should be present to keep your joists dry.

There is a wide variation in cost depending on the material used and if they are professionally installed or if you can purchase the material and either install it yourself or have a contractor install it for you.

Most home owners choose to select the style that attaches to the bottom for their underdeck ceiling. The cleanest and most attractive style is the flat panel. As far as material plastic or vinyl doesn’t fair well in the colder climates and often will crack, pop out and leak. Aluminum is better but can dent fairly easy and it is advised not to use with treated lumber.

Gavalume® is the best as it is the strongest and will not rust or corrode. An estimated 40 billion square feet now covers building roofs in all kinds of climates and environments throughout the world. If you think about it what you need is underdeck roofing.
